for everyone
Woohoo it's 2008! Let's start the year by going back 70 years into the past in one of the most memorable moments in comic book history. Happy New Year everybody!

SUPERMAN USHERS IN THE GOLDEN AGE OF COMICS

ACTION COMICS #1
April 1938 (cover dated June)-
A new era in Comics is born as the first Superhero makes his debut appearance. Action Comics #1 is composed of 64 pages, containing several different stories including: Adventures of Marco Pollo, Sticky-Mitt Stimson Story, The International Jewel Thief and many more. But of course we all know that none of them made as much impact as: "Superman, champion of the oppressed. The physical marvel who had sworn to devote his existence to helping those in need!" Heh. Gotta love the Golden Age. ^_^

This is considered by many as the most valuable comic book in existence. The lowest appraisal I found (for a near-mint condition) was at $440,000USD. Not bad for a funny book eh?

Action Comics #1's cover has been solidified as one of the most iconic images in the Geekiverse, making numerous appearances in comics as well as movies. These are some of my favorites:

CLOCKWISE FROM LEFT: Action Comics #1 Original Cover (Reprint), Kal-L vs. Kal-El (Infinite Crisis #5), Bizarro: Escape from Bizarro World (Action Comics #857), Superman Returns (2006)

And now, take a peek at the 13-page debut of the first & greatest Superhero ever! Enjoy!

My teacher owns a copy of that. I've held that copy myself. Though I'm not sure if it's Action Comics #1 or Superman #1. All I can remember is that the copy is a bit thin (maybe due to the paper getting old) and the dimensions are a bit bigger than the current dimensions of comic books that are published today. And if I remember correctly, it's published 1939. So maybe it's Superman #1.

Superman/CK looks mature here.
mmmmm... I think the catch here was only the story not the physical appearance of Superman unlike today ... which is both!
thank god it's history.

Thanks for posting man!

I used to have a giveaway copy of this from a comic book shop I used to frequent in Concord (California). It was just a reprint so it's nothing like the 440,000USD mint =D

Wow. Your teacher must be a very wealthy man to resist the idea of selling an authentic copy. Much as I love comics, I would freakin' sell my Action Comics #1 in a heartbeat (If I ever got my hands on one). As far as I know, AC #1 was reprinted back in the 90's (Reprints are still on sale in eBay). Do you think it was possible that what you saw was a reprint?

Anyway, if it was Superman #1, it's still pretty valuable. around 250k USD (N/M). So hunt your teacher down and rob him blind. lol. Don't hesitate on contacting me if you need help. 50/50 is fine with me. ^_^

He told me that he got that from an old local newspaper junkyard for free. He asked his buddy (the owner of the junkyard) if he can get some old printed stuff, and the buddy just let him. Among the stuff that he got is that comic book. I don't think that he's lying though because definitely, he's not rich enough to afford such comic book.

It's a very impressive find then, considering this was published in the midst WWII. He should get it appraised and see what he can get for it. Or if he decides to keep it, to at least have it insured. Heh.

Oh hey what a coincidence. I've just sent you a PM just now. Hehe!

Edit: I haven't read this Elseworlds story yet, but the concept is interesting. I'd want to read something like this just to see where it goes. Do tell me what you think of this if/after you've read it. ^_^

If you're fond of these types of stories, I'd recommend Superman: Red Son and the uber awesome Kingdom Come

I came across it and it just seemed interesting. Thank you thank you for the PM! Don't be surprised if I keep checking that specific album over and over again. Hehe.
I haven't read it either. Came across it and it did seem interesting.
Kingdom Come? Is that the one with four issues? I'll look for that, thanks :) Btw, finished Hush volume 1 and 2! Hehe.

Wow. You're really eating up all the comics. It's so cool that you read Batman haha. Woohoo Hush. The Loeb/Lee collaboration is one of the best ever in a Batman comic. Ooohh you're getting nearer and nearer to current DC continuity! :D
